CHICKEN IN EVERY POT PIE BITE

LOUISVILLE (October 16, 1995) -- Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) redefines a classic American dish with its introduction of Chunky Chicken Pot Pie. The latest menu item debuts this week in more than 5,100 KFC restaurants nationwide.

Unlike the typical frozen products people have come to associate with pot pie, KFC's new Chunky Chicken Pot Pie is freshly prepared in every restaurant and loaded with two-and-one-half ounces of plump, tender KFC chicken -- providing a piece of chicken in virtually every bite.

"We're reinventing an American classic," said David Novak, KFC president and CEO. "Our Chunky Chicken Pot Pie is as good as grandma's -- even better."

The 13-ounce pies are filled with a golden creamy sauce developed especially for KFC by Campbell's Soup Company. The sauce is made with a rich chicken stock blended with cream and seasoned with a hint of pepper. In classic American pot pie tradition, the special sauce surrounds a triumvirate of vegetables -- tender white potatoes, garden green peas and sweet carrot slices. A flaky, buttery-flavored golden pie crust created for KFC by Pepperidge Farms tops the pie.

"We knew if we were going to offer our customers a pot pie, we'd have to do it right and make it rich, delicious and filled with lots of chicken," said Keith Chambers, a KFC franchisee and chairman of the KFC National Cooperative Advertising Program, Inc.

Chunky Chicken Pot Pie will be introduced officially with great fanfare in New York on October 18 with the creation of the "World's Largest Pot Pie" -- setting a Guinness record with a gigantic, 22,100-pound version of the personal-sized original. Officials from the Guinness Book of World Records and from the New York Department of Weights and Measures -- to independently verify the record-breaking creation -- as well as a kick-line of dancing peas and carrots will attend the noontime event. Overseeing it all will be the "World's Largest Chicken Balloon" -- a 75-foot chicken-shaped hot air balloon. Witnesses to the giant pot pie event will receive sample Chunky Chicken Pot Pies.

National television advertising from Young & Rubicam supports the new product. The ad, titled "Teenage Sons," features a relieved mother who discovers that KFC Chunky Chicken Pot Pie satisfies the appetites of her always hungry teenage sons.

The pot pies are now baking at KFC restaurants nationwide and are sold with a flaky KFC biscuit, retailing at about $3.79 (Prices will vary.)
