KFC'S NEW SPICY BUFFALO CRISPY STRIPS TM DEBUT IN BIRTHPLACE OF BUFFALO WINGS

Buffalo, N.Y. -- The Buffalo Bills’ legendary quarterback Jim Kelly is taking advantage of his unexpected free time (post-NFL playoffs) to prove that neither his team nor his city is a sore loser in a new advertisement for Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC).

The national ad introducing KFC’s Spicy Buffalo Crispy StripsTM was filmed at another Buffalo legend, the Anchor Bar, birthplace of Buffalo chicken wings. KFC’s new product is a contender to old-fashioned Buffalo wings — all the great taste without the mess.

In the spot, Anchor Bar chef/manager Ivano Toscani and bar regulars (played by Buffalo residents) are chagrined to discover that KFC’s Spicy Buffalo Crispy Strips have captured the great spicy flavor of Buffalo wings. In the end, a somewhat dejected Toscani comments about “Buffalo losing” to which Kelly responds, “You win some; you lose some.”

“We know Buffalo is proud of its chicken wings and its Bills — no matter what the scoreboard might say,” said Randy Gier, senior vice president-marketing for KFC Corporation. “Jim Kelly had great fun with the notion of Buffalo getting one-upped, one more time. With KFC’s new Spicy Buffalo Crispy Strips, you get the taste you love about Buffalo wings — without the mess.“

The Anchor Bar in downtown Buffalo made spicy chicken wings famous after introducing the creation to customers in 1964. Since then, the city of Buffalo has become synonymous with the fiery flavor of spicy wings. But in recent years, the city has also been recognized as the home of the only team to lose four consecutive Super Bowls, from 1990 to 1993.

“Jim is a great sport to let us have some fun with this idea,” said Peter Foulds, vice president-advertising for KFC Corporation. “We think people, especially sports fans, will get a big kick out of Jim’s role in the ad.”

New Spicy Buffalo Crispy Strips are easy-to-eat boneless white-meat chicken strips, marinated in a spicy Buffalo seasoning, breaded and fried to a crunchy spiciness. They will be available nationally in late March at most of the more than 5,000 KFC restaurants across the country.

Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC), based in Louisville, Ky., is the world’s most popular chicken restaurant chain specializing in both fried and roasted chicken pieces, homestyle sides and great meals.. Since its founding by Colonel Harland Sanders in 1952, KFC has been “America’s Leading Kitchen For Convenient Meals,” serving customers delicious, already-prepared complete family meals at affordable prices. There are more than 9,800 KFC outlets in 73 countries around the world serving nearly seven million customers each day. KFC is a subsidiary of PepsiCo, Inc., Purchase, N.Y. (PEP).
