CALCULATING TAX
ESellerCart has a powerful, automatic tax calculation application for orders that originate and are sent within the United States.

For merchants and customers outside the United States, the Sales Tax total on the customer's check out page will always display as "Pending". The merchant calculates the tax by hand and enters this into the order during the order process confirmation and payment processing stage.

The Automated Tax Calculator allows you to set a set a global rule for calculating tax on all or none of your products, based on your own state's tax rules.

If you charge sales tax on some of your products, but not all, simply mark each applicable item not-taxable. You set the taxable status in the Product Details section of the Product Producer application. You will still need to activate the Tax Calculator by checking the box below.

TROUBLE-SAVING TIP: Check the taxable box in the product details for each product before you take your site live. If you change the taxable status, you will need to regenerate and replace the existing HTML for that product.

STEP 1.

SET WHICH STATES TO TAX

Most merchant will only set tax calculation for customers who reside in the same state as the merchant. For instance, a merchant in Washington State will collect sales tax from a customer who also resides in Washington, but not from a customer who resides in Oregon. In some cases merchants will need to collect tax for other states.

The calculator lets you determine if tax is to be added to the shipping costs. You set the calculator by selecting the corresponding radio button below. If you are unsure of your state's tax code, the calculator provides an option to allow the database to determine the tax status on shipping charges, based on whether your district charges tax on shipping.

STEP 3.

SET AUTOMATIC TAX CALCULATION

Automatic Tax calculation is available for orders that originate from and are set to addresses within the United States. For international merchants or customers shipping to non-U.S. address, the calculator will always set tax to appear as pending when a customer is checking out. You will need to manually calculate and add the applicable taxes when you process the order.
